Why Bruno’s Should Be Your Go To Takeout Spot

May 11, 2026

Most people know Bruno’s for the dining room and the tavern. For the calzones, the pasta, and the plates that have been on the menu for over 40 years. But if you haven’t ordered takeout from Bruno’s, you’re missing one of the best kept secrets on Allen Ave.

Start with the pizza.

The Pizza You Didn’t Know You Were Missing

Every Bruno’s pizza starts with fresh 10 inch dough made in house, topped with pizza sauce and a blend of mozzarella, Romano, and provolone. That three cheese combination is what sets it apart. It gives the pizza a depth and richness that you’re not going to find from a chain or a delivery app. This is a real pizza, made by the same kitchen that has been cooking Italian food in Portland since 1981.

From there you can keep it classic with toppings like pepperoni, sausage, garlic, or bacon. Or you can go with one of the specialty pizzas. The Chicken Broccoli Alfredo swaps the red sauce for alfredo and adds grilled chicken and broccoli. The Buffalo Chicken comes with bleu cheese dressing, buffalo tenders, and celery. The Chicken Pesto features basil pesto, red onion, and grilled chicken. Each one is built on that same fresh dough and three cheese base, and each one holds up on the ride home just as well as it does at the table.

More Than Just Pizza

Pizza is a great reason to call in an order, but the takeout menu goes well beyond that.

Bruno’s calzones are made with fresh pizza dough, ricotta, Romano, provolone, mozzarella, and tomato sauce. Bruno’s was the first restaurant in Portland to serve calzones back in 1985, and they’ve been one of the most popular items on the menu ever since. The House calzone is loaded with peppers, mushrooms, onions, Kalamata olives, pepperoni, and sausage. There’s also a Meatball and an Eggplant option.

The sandwich menu travels well too. The India Street Special is steak, American cheese, onions, peppers, and mushrooms on a sub roll, named after the street where Bruno’s got its start. Bruno’s Special is grilled chicken with American cheese, onions, peppers, and mushrooms. Both come with hand cut fries, potato salad, or cole slaw.

And if you’re feeding the whole family, Bruno’s Pasta Company products are available for local retailers. Classic Cheese Ravioli, Spinach Ravioli, Potato Gnocchi, Four Cheese Lasagna, and more. Same recipes the kitchen has used for over 40 years, ready to cook at home in minutes.

Walk In, Pick Up, Head Home

Ordering takeout from Bruno’s is simple. Call ahead at (207) 878-9511 and your order will be ready when you arrive. You can also order delivery through 2DineIn. When you’re picking up, come in through the dining room side and one of the hostesses will have your order ready to grab. No waiting around, no confusion. Just walk in, pick it up, and head home.

Whether it’s a pizza for game night, calzones for the family, or a couple of sandwiches on a busy weeknight, Bruno’s has you covered. The same kitchen, the same recipes, the same quality, just packed up and ready to go.
