Bruno’s is an iconic name in Portland‘s food scene with a rich history spanning over thirty years. Our authentic taste has made us Portland’s favorite Italian-American restaurant with an incredible community of customers.
Continue reading below to learn about our journey from a small bar on India Street to a full-scale restaurant and tavern, and how your love and support has allowed us to build this legacy from scratch.
Our Journey Through the Years
Bruno’s was established by owner and founder Bob Napolitano in what is called Portland’s Little Italy. In the early years, he only served steamed hot dogs and bottled beers out of a tiny bar on India Street.
With the growth in business, we moved further down India Street to a larger location and where we were able to establish our first kitchen. Bruno’s was the first kitchen in Portland to serve calzones. We were also the first bar to open an outdoor patio in Portland. Our steak and cheese sandwich, pizza and linguini with clam sauce became instant classics.
Bruno’s was opened in its current location at 33 Allen Avenue in 1991. With the new location, we increased the menu options, seating, building size and the staff.
Bruno’s Pasta Company
Portland’s love for Bruno’s motivated us to expand our legacy and launch a product line consisting of our iconic ravioli, sauces and dressings under the name of Bruno’s Pasta Company. We used authentic, imported Italian recipes to come up with a unique, Maine-made product that is now being offered through local retail and wholesale stores. The idea behind Bruno’s Pasta Company products is to allow our customers to bring a taste of the restaurant into their own kitchen.
What’s Next for Bruno’s
We’re proud of our cuisine and our heritage, but it’s the people of greater Portland that has kept us going throughout all these years. We would like to continue serving Bruno’s loyal customers for years to come and expand the legacy that you have helped us build!
